beaucatcher mountain
beaucatcher mountain is a collage film that blends narrative elements of family history with fragments of existing Southern Appalachian folklore to create a new myth. Hand-drawn animation, experimental editing, 16mm film and digital footage blend to create a layered text, both literally and metaphorically. The production was approached as a “happening” in dialogue with the legacy of the Black Mountain College. Production took place at a range of locations in Black Mountain, North Carolina—including Lake Eden Road (the road to the original Black Mountain College campus)— over the course of a weekend during which cast and crew shared creative and technical roles, with an original score being recorded live in Black Mountain.
